Choate Opens Up Athletic Play Undefeated

The Wild Boars are off to a fantastic start in the 2022-2023 interscholastic athletic season. Choate Rosemary Hall’s athletic teams completed a perfect 4-0 in the first four official games of the year.

Varsity Field Hockey kicked things off with a thrilling 2-0 defeat over Ethel Walker School. The Wild Boars came out victorious in the first official game played on the new turf Class of ‘76 Field.

Sophia Rodham ‘23 and Elisabeth Hargett ‘25 both scored, and Ellie Silva ‘26 recorded two assists. Delaney Ellsworth ‘24 played an amazing game in net, earning the shutout for the team. Carolyn Chen ‘25 and Sophia Berdon ‘24 played amazing games as well by getting the ball into the offensive zone and keeping it there.

Girls JV Soccer followed closely behind Varsity Field Hockey, exploding for eight goals enroute to an 8-0 victory over Ethel Walker School on the road.

Also playing on the road was Boys Varsity Soccer, as the Wild Boars took on Brunswick School in Greenwich. After a slow start in which both teams did not register a goal in the first half, Nico Mangiafico ’23 tallied the first goal of the season for Choate, slotting a right-footed strike past the Brunswick goalkeeper. The game continued to be a back-and-forth affair until Jan Carlos Paladines ’24 and Justin Lee ’25 each potted rebounds in the waning minutes to put things out of reach. Brandon Ma ’24 earned the shutout in net behind solid backline play.

Closing out the memorable day for Choate was Girls Varsity Volleyball, earning a hard-fought win over Founders League rival Miss Porter’s School, by a score of 3-1 (sets).

Congratulations to our Wild Boars on such a great start to the fall season, and Go Choate!
